It is effective because its used in almost any design. The most important thing here is not just how much contrast there is (black vs. white) but also how the contrast is presented within a space. Black and white are classic but still look modern or retro when paired with other colors. From traditional to contemporary, urban to country, a black and white design is a clean look that is minimal, sophisticated, and elegant look that demands attention.
